Hollister's Financial Crisis
Hollister's Financial Crisis
City Council, led by ex-mayor Mia Casey, increased Hollister's General Fund Spending by $22.2 million, or 60% (June 2023)
When Did Budget Crisis Begin?
In 2023, Hollister's City Council, led by ex-mayor Mia Casey, increased spending by 60% ($ 22.2 million). They hired a lot more staff, gave raises, expanded the sewer system to help developers, and bought a Hazel Hawkins building that's still unused. On June 26, 2023, ex-councilman Tim Burns made the motion to approve this disastrous budget which passed by a vote of 4 to 1. Only Councilman Rolan Resendiz voted against this budget.
In 2026, the new City Council, led by mayor Roxanne Stephens, is forced to make drastic cuts and probably do layoffs to resolve the budget crisis.Â
